WFU music department hosts annual competition

The Wake Forest University music department will present the 27th annual Christopher Giles and Lucille S. Harris Competitions in Musical Performance Feb. 28 in Scales Fine Arts Center’s Brendle Recital Hall. Admission is free.

Four Wake Forest students will compete for cash prizes in the piano competition at 10:30 a.m. The pianists will perform baroque and classical music.

During the open competition, which begins at 2 p.m., 18 Wake Forest students will also compete for cash prizes. They will perform selections of their choice.

Established by Paul and Sara Sinal, the music competitions honor Christopher Giles, who taught piano at Wake Forest for 37 years before his death in 1996, and retired piano instructor Lucille S. Harris.
