Painting, sculptures, photographs, installations and digital media will be among the nearly 80 student works on display in Wake Forest University’s Annual Student Art Exhibition at the Charlotte and Philip Hanes Art Gallery April 22 – May 17.
An opening reception for the juried exhibition will be held April 22 at 4 p.m. Admission to the gallery and the reception is free.
Senior Michael Presley’s “Rabid Wombats,” an installation of oil paint on metal augers (10 to 12-inch metal pieces used for boring) will be one of the student works showcased during the exhibit. Presley’s piece is featured on the exhibition announcement card.
Wake Forest art faculty, who will judge all the artwork, will award $400 in cash prizes as well as purchase awards during the reception. The purchase awards are part of a program in which a number of works are selected and purchased by the university to become part of the university’s permanent art collection.
In addition, the Upstairs Gallery will feature senior honors exhibitions by four graduating art majors. The work of one student will be displayed each week.
Megan Sheminske’s “Untitled” oil on canvas will be one of the works she will display April 5-9. Dasha Rettew’s painting “Constraint” will be exhibited, along with some of her other work, April 12-16. Emily Johnson’s piece made of oil paint and resin on faux fur will be among her works showcased April 19-23, and Courtney Lee’s prints will be featured April 26-30.
