Wake Forest announces new schedule for musical ‘Into the Woods’ following fire

Despite a fire that destroyed its set April 3, the Wake Forest University Theatre production of “Into the Woods” will be performed on campus this week, after all.

The play, which opened April 2, will be moved to Brendle Recital Hall from the MainStage Theatre in Scales Fine Arts Center. The restaged production will be performed in Brendle Recital Hall April 8, 9 and 10 at 7:30 p.m. each day.

The fire, which damaged the set and stage of the MainStage Theatre, has caused the cancellation of three performances—April 3, 4 and 7.

Tickets for those performances may be exchanged for shows on April 8, 9 and 10. Ticket holders may contact the Wake Forest Theatre Box Office in Scales Fine Arts Center on April 5 and 6 for exchanges. The office will be open from noon to 5 p.m. each weekday. The phone number is 336-758-5295.

Starting April 7, any available tickets will go on sale at the box office. Tickets are also expected to be available at the door through the box office.

The fire erupted on the set of the musical while the theatre was empty April 3. The set and stage were damaged by fire, water and smoke. University Police officers and Winston-Salem firefighters were called to the theatre when a fire alarm activated at 5:34 p.m. No one was injured in the incident.

The Winston-Salem Fire Department and Wake Forest’s police department are investigating the cause of the fire.
