The Wake Forest University Theatre opens its fall Studio Series of one-act plays directed by Wake Forest theatre majors with performances of “The Actor’s Nightmare,” “Hidden in This Picture” and “Blind Date.” The performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 13 and 4:30 p.m. Sept. 14 in the Ring Theatre of Scales Fine Arts Center.
“The Actor’s Nightmare,” written by Christopher Durang and directed by Wake Forest senior Nick Ewen, is a dark comedy that tells the story of an accountant named George Spelvin, who is thrust into a show where all of the actors are performing different plays and is expected to perform not knowing any of the lines. Wake Forest students Erich Jones, Christine Coode, Nancy Rapp, Alex Harmon and Tom Griffin make up the cast.
Aaron Sorkin’s 45-minute spoof, “Hidden in this Picture,” is an early work by the creator of “The West Wing” that tells the story of a first-time movie director trying to film an elaborate “real time” scene when three cows wander into the shot. The play is directed by Wake Forest senior Scotty Candler.
“Blind Date,” directed by Wake Forest senior Jonathan Watkins, is a play written by Horton Foote. It follows the disastrous events of a blind date that Delores Henry, a former high school beauty queen, sets up for her visiting niece Sarah Nancy with a would-be mortician. Cast members include Wake Forest students Laura Lutkefedder, J.W. Crump, Morgan Partin and Tom Sloan.
