WFU announces November lecture schedule

Nov. 1, “The Human Genome Project: What Can Theological Reflection Contribute to the Ethics of Genetic Medicine?” with James Walter, Greene Hall, Room 145, 4 p.m.
James Walter is the Austin and Ann O’Malley Professor of Bioethics and director of The Bioethics Institute at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, Calif. Nov. 2, “Praying and Singing Globally: An Exploration of Cultural Diversity in Worship,” Wait Chapel, 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
C. Michael Hawn, professor of church music at Perkins School of Theology, and Edwin Aponte, associate professor of Christianity and culture at Southern Methodist University, will conduct a workshop focusing on techniques for multicultural diversity in local congregational worship settings. Nov. 4, “The Miracle of Lomantán: The Religious Reflection of the Zapatista Revolt” with Louanna Furbee, Museum of Anthropology, 7:30 p.m.
Louanna Furbee is professor emerita of anthropology and religious studies at the University of Missouri at Columbia. The event is sponsored by the anthropology department, theatre and dance department, history department, women’s and gender studies program, Center for International Studies, and the Dean of the College. Nov. 10, “A Conversation with Playwright José Rivera,” Thomas C. Taylor Atrium, Calloway Center, Second Floor, 7:30 p.m.
Playwright José Rivera will speak on “Writing as Vocation and Entrepreneurship.” The lecture will be followed by a question-and-answer session. The event is sponsored by the theatre and dance department, Romance languages department, English department, film studies program and the Office of Entrepreneurship and Liberal Arts. Nov. 22, “You’re Hired” with Bill Rancic, Wait Chapel, 8 p.m.
Winner of NBC’s “The Apprentice,” Bill Rancic will speak on his new book, his business and his time on the show. Rancic’s book will be for sale in the College Bookstore before and after the lecture.
