WFU tops study abroad list
Wake Forest University had the highest percentage of undergraduates studying abroad among doctoral/research institutions in 2002-2003, according to the Open Doors 2004 report published by the Institute of International Education.
The report, released in November, put Wake Forest at the top of the list “Selected Institutions by Estimated Undergraduate Participation in Study Abroad: Top 20 Doctoral/Research Institutions, 2002-2003.” An estimated 57.8 percent of Wake Forest undergraduates received credit for study abroad in the 2002-2003 academic year.
“Wake Forest is a strong believer in the study abroad experience for its students,” said Pia Wood, director of international studies at Wake Forest. “In an increasingly interdependent world, there is no question that a deeper understanding of foreign cultures and languages is invaluable to students in their academic, professional and personal lives.”
Wake Forest owns residential study centers in Venice, Vienna and London, where students live and study with a faculty member. Wake Forest also offers study abroad programs to many other places, including Japan, Morocco, Cuba and Benin.
