Violinist Joshua Bell to perform for WFU’s Secrest Artists Series

Grammy Award-winning violinist Joshua Bell will perform at Wake Forest University in the fourth concert of the university’s Secrest Artists Series at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12 in Wait Chapel. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m.

Bell was originally scheduled to perform Feb. 10, but organizers rescheduled the performance because a large number of Wake Forest students are expected to attend a men’s basketball game that evening.

Bell’s program will include sonatas for violin and piano from Brahms and Camille Saint-Saëns as well as works from Bartok, Henryk Wieniawski and Leo Janáĉek.

Considered one of the most renowned violinists in the world, Bell has earned the rare title of classical music superstar. He has performed for more than 20 years with orchestras around the world and has recorded 27 albums. He has won numerous Grammy Awards, and his work on “The Red Violin” earned the 1999 film an Academy Award for best soundtrack.

The Wake Forest Student Union will hold free screenings of “The Red Violin” at 8:30 p.m. Feb. 7 and 9 in Pugh Auditorium.

Concert tickets are $25 general admission; $20 senior citizens and non-Wake Forest students; and $5 for children under 12. Tickets are available without charge to all Wake Forest students, faculty and staff.
