Members of the media are invited to cover freshman move-in day at Wake Forest University Aug. 18. Residence halls open to students at 8 a.m., and faculty, staff and upperclassmen will be on hand to help freshmen and their families unload vehicles and carry personal belongings into residence halls. Freshman orientation begins with move-in and continues through Aug. 23.
The university expects approximately 1,120 freshmen students from 43 states and 11 foreign countries. Most freshmen will live in Bostwick, Collins, Johnson, Babcock and Luter residence halls, all located on the south side of campus near Gulley Drive.
Photographers and reporters interested in talking with freshmen and their families should plan to arrive by 8:30 – 9 a.m. News Service staff will be available to escort media inside residence halls. Interviews will be available with Connie Carson, executive director of residential services; and with Joanne Armentrout, assistant director of the university’s counseling center. Armentrout can discuss empty nest/college transition issues.
Marked media vehicles may park along Gulley Drive.
Freshmen will pick up their laptop computers and color printers from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Aug. 18 in the Information Systems (IS) Building, Rooms 224 and 225. A tram will carry students from residence halls to the IS building.
While students are receiving their equipment, their families will be treated to a reception featuring a display comparing the equipment used by students today with equipment used in the past, reaching back to the 1970s. There will also be a mock residence hall room decorated to reflect how today’s students live versus the campus life their parents may have experienced. The reception will be held in the Information Systems Food Court.
From 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. on move-in day, there will be a variety of services offered to freshmen on the fourth floor of the Benson University Center. Students can pick up ID cards and mailbox keys, register for parking and learn about a variety of university services.
A reception for freshmen who are children of Wake Forest alumni and their families will be held at 4 p.m. in the Main Lounge of Reynolda Hall.
