Salvatore “Sal” D’Agostino

Salvatore “Sal” D’Agostino, a member New York City Fire Department’s (FDNY) Ladder Company 6 and one of the few firefighters who survived the World Trade Center attack on Sept. 11, 2001, will speak at Wake Forest University at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 7 in Pugh Auditorium in Benson University Center. The event is free and open to the public.

In his lecture, titled “The Miracle of Ladder Company 6,” D’Agostino will speak about the harrowing experience of Sept. 11. Despite the risks, he and six other members of his company went into the North Tower to try to rescue others. They were on the fifth floor when the tower collapsed and survived by landing in a stairwell.

The account of Ladder Company 6 was featured in several news publications and programs, including “Dateline NBC.”

D’Agostino was recommended for a Class 1 Meritorious Act Award, the highest award given by FDNY, for his actions at the World Trade Center.

The lecture is sponsored by the Student Union. For more information, call (336) 758-5697.
