Locklair to perform ‘To the Stars’ concert at Wake Forest
“To the Stars,” a Jan. 23 organ recital by Wake Forest University Composer-in-Residence and Professor of Music Dan Locklair will feature Locklair’s 1980 concerto for organ and percussion, “Constellations.”
The concert will begin at 8 p.m. in Wait Chapel at Wake Forest. Admission is free and open to the public.
One of the award-winning finalist pieces in the 1981 Kennedy Center Friedheim Awards, “Constellations” has since been performed around the world.
The featured percussionist will be John R. Beck, percussionist for the Winston-Salem and Greensboro symphony orchestras, who also teaches at Wake Forest and the North Carolina School of the Arts.
Locklair will also perform solo organ works by Kenneth Leighton, Olivier Messiaen and Johann Walther. The program will include another Locklair work, “In Mystery and Wonder (The Casavant Diptych).”
Flutist Kathryn Levy and recorder player Stewart Carter, both Wake Forest faculty members, will join Dan Locklair in performing “Trio Sonata in C Major” by Georg P. Telemann.
