WFU’s Christopher Dietrich recognized for commitment to community

Wake Forest junior Christopher Dietrich has been presented with the Community Impact Student Award by NC Campus Engagement for his commitment and contribution to civic and community engagement.

Dietrich was selected by Wake Forest University administration after careful consideration of the students who made a lasting impact on the Wake Forest campus.

As a distinguished student leader and Public Health AmeriCorps member, Dietrich has worked more than 900 hours supporting public health efforts through the program.

Public Health AmeriCorps aims to address urgent public health needs in communities and train the next generation of public health leaders. More than 40 members have served in the Wake Forest program since it began in 2021.

Dietrich also volunteers at the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center, where he helps patients by connecting them to food, gas, transportation and other non-medical needs.

“I feel very honored to have received this award, and it reaffirms my ambition to drive positive change in our community,” said Dietrich, who is from Wiesbaden, Germany. “More importantly, it’s a reminder to continue my commitment to service and embracing the Pro Humanitate spirit.”

A health and exercise science major who is also pursuing minors in communications and chemistry, Dietrich is also a 2024-25 President’s Aide. Along with nearly 50 students chosen for this role, the group meets regularly with the University President to provide a communication link between students and the administration. Students are selected based on demonstrated leadership in academic life, student life and community service.

“Chris shows a deepening knowledge of our local community and works to pass that along to other students,” said Brad Shugoll, assistant director of public engagement. “He is a role model for his peers and an example of living out the Pro Humanitate motto of Wake Forest.”

The 2024 Community Student Impact Award recipients were honored at the virtual “Engagement Matters” Student Awards Ceremony on November 13.

Since 2006, the Community Impact Student Award has recognized an outstanding, full-time undergraduate student service leader from each NC Campus Engagement member campus.
