WFU students raise more than $500K for charity this week

Wake Forest University students lived up to the motto of Pro Humanitate this week while raising more than $500,000 at various philanthropy events on campus.

The annual Wake ‘N Shake dance-a-thon raised its highest total yet with $376,730 for cancer research. More than 1.400 dancers participated in the 12-hour event while raising money for the Brian Piccolo Cancer Research Foundation.

Additionally, students in several fraternities and sororities raised nearly $135,000 this week, pushing the total of dollars raised to charity over the half-million mark:

• Sigma Chi fraternity surpassed its initial fundraising goal for its annual Derby Days philanthropy event and raised more than $97,000 for Brenner Children’s Hospital;
• Kappa Delta sorority raised $13,000 from its annual 5K event benefitting Prevent Child Abuse America;
• Kappa Alpha Theta sorority raised $19,000 from its spring philanthropy event, CASA Royale, benefitting Court Appointed Special Advisors (CASA); and
• Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority raised $5,000 from Kappa Kaddies, its annual golf tournament benefitting Brenner Children’s Hospital.
