Guest Violinist / Pianist to Perform at WFU

The 8 p.m. concert in Brendle Recital Hall will feature selections by several composers including Vivaldi, Bach and Strauss.

Steiner, an associate music professor at Georgia State University, taught at the Eastman School of Music from 1972-1992. He began his career as a violinist at the age of seven in New York City. Since that time, he has made numerous appearances in recital, as an orchestral soloist, and on radio and television, both nationally and abroad. Steiner has recorded for National Public Radio and Orion Records. Following his studies with Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School, he was awarded several scholarships, including one to the Yehudi Menuhin Festival in Gstaad.

The New York Times called Steiner’s Carnegie Hall debut “a splendidly played concert in which fine-honed techniques and superior musicianship asserted themselves at every point.”

Lewis, also on the music faculty at Georgia State, teaches each summer at the Interlochen Center for the Performing Arts in Michigan. A Fulbright scholar, he has made numerous recordings, including ones on the Turnabout, Vanguard Educo, Coronet, Crystal, and Gasparo labels. He earned a doctorate of musical arts from the Eastman School of Music.

The concert is a part of the Year of the Arts, a yearlong celebration of the arts that includes special performances, lectures and exhibits.
