Integrative Medicine, Healing Methods Focus of Events

Wake Forest University will host a Global Health Forum and a lecture on integrative medicine on Thursday, March 18, as part of health and aging month during the Year of Globalization and Diversity.

The events are free and open to the public.

The Global Health Forum will feature demonstrations of acupuncture, yoga and other healing traditions from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Benson University Center, Rooms 407 and 410. The forum will also highlight herbalogy, Tai Chi and the art of massage.

At 7:30 p.m., Roberta Lee, a physician with the University of Arizona’s integrative medicine program, will present, “Integrative Medicine: A New Perspective in Medical Care,” in the Scales Fine Arts Center, Room 102.

Integrative medicine seeks to bring together conventional and alternative medicine into cost-effective treatments aimed at stimulating the body’s natural healing potential.

Lee is an innovative internal medicine specialist with a focus on integrative medicine. Her current emphasis is on preventative medicine, wellness, botanical medicine and mind/body medicine.

Lee has practiced medicine in the United States and worked with the U.S. Public Health Service developing clinics in areas such as Colinia, Yap of the Federated States of Micronesia, and Koror, Palau.

The Year of Globalization and Diversity is a yearlong series of events examining the world’s development into a more global community. Each month during the year is dedicated to a topic related to globalization and diversity. March is health and aging month, followed by the environment in April.
