Spirituality and coronary disease topic of lecture

The free and public lecture, “The Heart of the Matter: Spirituality and Coronary Disease,” will begin at 7:30 a.m. in the Worrell Professional Center, Room 1312, on the university’s Reynolda Campus. Kendrick’s presentation is this year’s Frederick A. Thome Memorial Lecture, an annual lecture honoring a former participant in the cardiac rehabilitation program.

Kendrick is an associate professor of medicine at Wake Forest’s School of Medicine. He is also the associate director of the primary care residency program for the internal medicine department.

Kendrick has spent most of his professional life as a chaplain and medical educator. He has taught in the areas of medical ethics, interpersonal communication and counseling skills. Kendrick’s research interests include the relationship between theology and medicine, counseling and physician stress issues, the care of terminally ill patients and the ethical and communication aspects of physician-patient relationships.

Kendrick has a bachelor’s in philosophy from Washington and Lee University, a master’s in divinity from Duke University’s divinity school and a doctorate of ministry from the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He completed his residency in pastoral care at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
