Wait Chapel belltower at Wake Forest University dedicated in honor of Annie Pearl Shore Davis

The belltower at Wait Chapel at Wake Forest University has been named in memory of Annie Pearl Shore Davis. Davis was the mother of the late Thomas H. Davis, Egbert L. Davis, Jr. and Pauline Davis Perry who have given major gifts to support the newly opened Divinity School.

The family’s “Davis Challenge” has provided vital funding for the Divinity School. The three Davis children pledged $1 million to support the new program at Wake Forest – matching each $2 the university raised for the school with a $1 donation.

Funds raised through the “Davis Challenge” have been used to renovate Wingate Hall which houses the Divinity School and the religion department. New classrooms were built and a rotunda, the focal point of the Divinity School, was created.

The belltower was dedicated recently during a Divinity School chapel ceremony. The event was attended by the Davis family and the school’s board of visitors, faculty, staff and students.

The Divinity School at Wake Forest began its second year this fall. The new class has 28 full-time students. Fourteen students are men and 14 are women. There were 24 people in the founding class – five men and 19 women.
