Poets featured in Wake Forest’s November Writers Reading Series

Powell’s reading will be at 8 p.m., Nov. 16, in Carswell Hall, Room 111. Lindsay will read from her work at 8 p.m. on Nov. 30 in Tribble Hall, Room A107. Both readings are free and open to the public.

Powell is the author of “Tea” and the recently released “Lunch.” He often writes about the impact of AIDS on the homosexual community, incest and the grim realities of living on the streets. Publishers Weekly calls his writing “like the kiss of life to that age-old pair of sleeping beauties, sex and death.”

Powell is a recipient of a Paul Engle Fellowship from the James Michener Foundation and lives in San Francisco.

Lindsay will read from her new manuscript. Several of the poems have already been published in The Atlantic Monthly, The Antioch Review, River Styx and Manoa. The Boston Review says Lindsay’s “imagination is caught between the surreal and the ironic as she plays out her particular relationship to strange terrain.” She is the author of “Primate Behavior,” a poetry collection published in 1997 by Grove Press.
