Two new exhibitions, “The Entropic Garden” and “Mind Fields,” will open Feb. 9 in Wake Forest University’s Scales Fine Arts Center Gallery. The shows will run until March 25 and are free and open to the public.
“Entropic Garden” curators Joel Beck and Christian Viveros-FaunÈ have assembled works in several media by 10 Brooklyn-based artists, including Kenn Bass, Christoph Draeger, Peter Fend and Sheila Moss for this show in the main gallery. It includes “Dirt Carpet,” a piece Moss created by stenciling dirt, and “Dark Heart,” an oil painting on linen by K.K. Kozik.
“Mind Fields” curator Kathy Goodell picked some of her own drawings and others by nine New York area artists including Terry Adkins, Mike Bidlo, Bruce Conner, Mary Judge, John Morris and Karen Shaw to be shown in the upstairs gallery.
A slide lecture about “The Entropic Garden” will be held Feb. 8 at noon in Room 102 in the Scales Fine Arts Center. The opening reception for both shows will be Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. in the gallery. Both events are free and open to the public.
“The Entropic Garden” will explore the relationship between humanity’s need to centralize and organize into a complex civilization as it contrasts with nature’s untamed tendency to run wild.
Curators Beck and Viveros-FaunÈ are the founders and co-directors of Roebling Hall, an art gallery in Brooklyn, N.Y.
“Mind Fields” will examine bilateral symmetry and Rorschach-like imagery from a variety of vantage points.
Goodell is an artist and independent curator from New York City.
The Fine Arts Gallery is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
