Accounting students in Wake Forest University’s Calloway School of Business and Accountancy rank second in the nation for their performance on the May 2000 Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam. The Calloway students’ passage rate-71.9 percent-more than triples the national average.
The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA), the governing board that compiles all national scores, recently announced the rankings.
The NASBA ranks schools in two categories: those with graduate programs in accounting and those with undergraduate programs only. Wake Forest, with its five-year program to earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree in accounting, is ranked among schools with advanced degrees. Wake Forest’s passage rate has been either first or second in the nation since the Calloway School began offering a master’s degree in accountancy in 1997.
The Calloway School’s accounting program was also recently ranked 17th among all undergraduate accounting programs in the nation by the CPA Personnel Report’s 20th Annual Survey of Accounting Professors.
More than 400 students are enrolled in the Calloway School, making it the largest undergraduate program at Wake Forest. It offers four-year degrees in business, analytical finance, mathematical business and information systems, in addition to the bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accountancy.
