“Thomas Dixon Jr. and the Making of Modern America.” Event times and locations vary. Dixon (1864-1946) authored “The Clansman,” the controversial book that inspired the racially charged film “Birth of a Nation.” The opening panel discussion on April 10 will take place at Winston-Salem State University at 4 p.m. A screening of “The Birth of a Nation” will follow at 7 p.m. that evening at the North Carolina School of the Arts. All other events will be held on the Wake Forest campus. Individual symposium events are free and open to the public. Registration for the entire conference, including meals, is $10. “Humor in Film,” Romance language film symposium. Events will be held at Wake Forest at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art on Marguerite Drive in Winston-Salem, times will vary.
