Collegium Musicum to Perform Renaissance Music

With recorders, shawms, Renaissance flutes and other period instruments, the Wake Forest University Collegium Musicum will present “Spanish Music of the Golden Age” on Tuesday, April 7, at 8 p.m. in Wake Forest’s Brendle Recital Hall.

The free concert will feature instrumental and choral music from the 16th century. The vocal ensemble, directed by Brian Gorelick, will sing sacred music by the three great church music composers of Spain’s Golden Age-Francisco Guerrero, Tomas Luis da Victoria and Christobal de Morales. The instrumental ensemble, directed by Stewart Carter, will perform music by Juan del Encina, Juan Vasquez and others.

The Collegium Musicum is devoted to the performance of early music, using period performance practices and reproductions of period instruments.
