Media arrangements for WFU commencement featuring Senator John McCain

The media are invited to attend Wake Forest University’s commencement ceremony May 20, featuring U.S. Senator John McCain as speaker.

The outdoor ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. on University Plaza (the Quad). The event is not open to the public and parking passes will be required to enter campus. If your staff has not already received media and parking passes, contact the News Service to request them. All members of the media are also asked to carry their own media credentials.

Reporters and crews are encouraged to arrive early to secure a parking space. University Police staff will direct media vehicles to reserved parking areas in Lot A, next to Wait Chapel on the Reynolda Road side of campus; and in Lot B, adjacent to the Quad between Taylor and Davis residence halls. Some media may also need to park in other areas on campus.

A section to the right of the stage will be reserved for media. Due to schedule limitations, McCain will not hold a press conference. Individual media requests for interviews with McCain should be submitted to his office directly at 202-224-2182.

In case of rain, the commencement ceremony will be moved to Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum and begin at 9:30 a.m. Media will be notified by 7:30 a.m. on May 20 if the rain plan is put into effect.

The News Service will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, to address media inquiries.
