Vocal and instrumental ensembles to present Italian selections

The Wake Forest University Collegium Musicum vocal and instrumental ensembles will present musical selections from Italy on Nov. 13 at 8 p.m. in the Brendle Recital Hall of the Scales Fine Arts Center.

The program will feature madrigals and sacred works written by leading Italian composers of the late 16th and early 17th centuries.

The Collegium Musicum Vocal Ensemble will sing works by G.P. da Palestrina, Orlando Di Lasso, Claudio Monteverdi and Giovanni Gastoldi. The vocalists will join the Collegium Musicum Instrumentalists to perform Giovanni Gabrieli’s double choir motet “Hodie Christus Natus Est,” written in 1603 for St. Mark’s Cathedral in Venice.

Brian Gorelick, associate professor of music, is the conductor of the vocal ensemble and Stewart Carter, professor of music, directs the instrumental ensemble.
