Osage war and peace ceremonies to be discussed at WFU

George E. TinkerGeorge E. Tinker will give a free public lecture titled “War and Peace Ceremonies of the Osage Nation” March 28 at 4:30 p.m. in Benson University Center’s Pugh Auditorium at Wake Forest University.

Tinker, an Osage indian, will discuss both historical and modern Native American views on war and peace.

Tinker is a professor of American Indian cultures and religious traditions at the Iliff School of Theology, as well as a pastor at Living Waters Episcopal/Lutheran Indian Ministry in Denver, Colo. He is also the author of “Missionary Conquest: The Gospel and Native American Cultural Genocide” and numerous studies on the intersection of American Indian religious traditions and Christianity.

The lecture is sponsored by the Wake Forest departments of religion and anthropology, the humanities program, the Allen Easley Fund and the Dean of the College. For more information, call 336-758-7169.
