In place of the traditional Fall Convocation, Wake Forest University will hold two symposiums during the week of Nathan O. Hatch’s inauguration as the 13th president of Wake Forest.
Hatch will be installed as president Oct. 20.
The academic symposiums will be held Oct. 19 in Brendle Recital Hall.
The first, “Why the Liberal Arts? Exploring the Aims of a University Education,” will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. The moderator will be Stanley Katz, professor at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. The second, “The Moral Challenges of Professional Life,” will be held from 2 – 4 p.m. and will be moderated by E.J. Dionne Jr., Washington Post columnist and senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. The events are free and open to the public.
Three awards are usually presented during Fall Convocation. This year, faculty winners of the Jon Reinhardt Award for Distinguished Teaching and the Donald O. Schoonmaker Faculty Award for Community Service will be recognized during Homecoming Weekend. The awards will be announced during the alumni/faculty reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 23 in Reynolda Hall’s Main Lounge.
The Marcellus Waddill Excellence in Teaching Awards will be presented Oct. 22 at the President’s Weekend Stewardship Breakfast.
