Award-winning musicians
The 34th annual Christopher Giles and Lucille S. Harris Competitions in Musical Performance recognize Wake Forest students for their musical talents. Winners for 2011:
• The Joseph Pleasant Sloan and Marguerite Nutt Sloan Award: First Place Performance by an Instrumentalist in the Open Competition — Brennan Wong, violin, a first-year student from Austin, Texas (student of Jacqui Carrasco)
• The Patricia Sloan Mize Award: Second Place Performance by an Instrumentalist in the Open Competition — Elizabeth Hartley, alto saxophone, a senior from Ocala, Fla. (student of Eileen Young)
• The Award for Outstanding Performance by a Singer — Ryan Wyrofsky, tenor, a senior from Moorestown, N.J. (student of Richard Heard)
• The Award for Outstanding Performance by a Non-Music Major — Jorge Méndez Estrada, a junior from Kernersville, N.C. (student of John Spuller)
• The Sinal Prize: First Place in the Piano Competition — Cheng Liu, a sophomore from Hangzhou, China (student of Louis Goldstein)
• The Marc and Eric Elvy Award: Second Place in the Piano Competition — Erica Fedor, a sophomore from Ellicott City, Md. (student of Dr. Louis Goldstein)
• The Ward Virts Prize for Pianistic Expressiveness — Lauren Rajakovich, a senior from Pittsburgh, Penn. (student of Dr. Louis Goldstein)
