Preparing for severe weather
In light of recent tornadoes across the South, the University encourages students, staff and faculty to review information on the Wake Alert website relating to tornadoes and other types of severe weather.
Wake Alert offers regularly updated AccuWeather reports for our area on the bottom of the site’s main page. Information on current conditions and forecasts is available at all times.
Recommendations on how to respond to tornadoes and severe weather are offered under the heading of “Emergency Situations.” Scroll down to the Hazardous Weather section on the page.
The Frequently Asked Questions section of Wake Alert offers several sources of timely information about severe weather and tornadoes, including links to external websites. Links are provided to the National Weather Service in Raleigh and area news outlets, including the Winston-Salem Journal and TV stations WXII, WGHP, WFMY and News 14 Carolina.
In the event severe weather threatens campus or the surrounding area, it is recommended that faculty, staff and students monitor the local news for important alerts.
