Who and What: Wake Forest students, faculty, and staff volunteers will prepare and deliver 400 traditional Thanksgiving dinners to food-insecure Triad-area residents during Turkeypalooza, an annual event hosted by The Campus Kitchen at Wake Forest University during the national Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. More than 150 volunteers will cook with locally sourced food and deliver to families who might otherwise go without a Thanksgiving meal.
When and Where: All food preparation will take place at the facilities in the Benson University Center (2012 photo gallery). Media are welcome to photograph and film volunteers preparing food at the following times:
- Sunday, Nov. 17 – 1 to 4 p.m.
- Monday, Nov. 18 – 5 to 9 p.m.
- Tuesday, Nov. 19 – 5 to 9 p.m.
- Wednesday, Nov. 20 – 5 to 9 p.m.
Why: Campus Kitchens is a food recycling program that utilizes food that was cooked but never served in the campus dining halls. The Campus Kitchen at Wake Forest University is one of 33 Campus Kitchens in operation across America. Shelley Sizemore, assistant director of Campus Life and Service, has made it her mission to incorporate local ingredients into the 400 holiday meals – as well as the 300 meals Campus Kitchens volunteers prepare each week – so those in need have healthy food available.
