Alec Baldwin to Star in “Love Letters”

Actor Alec Baldwin, who recently appeared in the movie “Ghosts of Mississippi,” will star in A.R. Gurney’s stage romance “Love Letters” at Wake Forest University on Tuesday, April 8. The performance had been scheduled for March 4.

The play will begin at 8 p.m. in Wait Chapel. Wake Forest graduate Tess Malis Kincaid will play opposite Baldwin.

“The two-character play is comprised of letters exchanged over a lifetime between two people who grew up together, went their separate ways, but continued to share confidences,” said Harold Tedford, director of the Wake Forest University Theatre.

Baldwin has starred in several popular films including “The Hunt for Red October,” “Glengarry Glen Ross,” “Married to the Mob,” and “The Shadow.” His most recent film is David Mamet’s “Bookworm” with Anthony Hopkins.

In addition to films, Baldwin has appeared on Broadway many times. He won a Theater World Award for his role in the 1986 production of “Loot.” He also won a Tony nomination for Stanley in a Broadway production of Tennessee Williams’ “A Streetcar Named Desire” and later earned an Emmy nomination when he repeated the role for television in 1995. Early in his career, Baldwin appeared in the soap opera “The Doctors.” He then moved to prime time to star in “Knot’s Landing.”

Baldwin, along with his partner Mark Mori, is the producer and host of “Raw Footage” on the Independent Film Channel. He is also president of The Creative Coalition, an alliance of entertainment professionals concerned with public issues. He supports the Drama League of New York City, the Bay Street Theatre of Sag Harbor and several other organizations.

Kincaid, a 1986 graduate of Wake Forest, has acted extensively with the North Carolina Shakespeare Company. A founding member of the Georgia Ensemble Theatre, she currently lives in Atlanta. She will soon appear at The People’s Light and Theatre Company in Philadelphia in a new adaptation of Pirandello’s play, “Have it Your Way.”

Baldwin also will teach a master class for Wake Forest theater students while he is on campus.

“Love Letters” is part of Wake Forest’s Year of the Arts, a yearlong celebration of the arts featuring special performances, exhibits, lectures and other events.

A limited number of tickets will be available to the public beginning Monday, Feb. 17. Tickets are $15 for adults; $12 for students. To reserve tickets, call the Wake Forest University Theatre Box Office (open 12-5:30 p.m.) at 759-5295.
