WFU Museum of Anthropology Wins Federal Grant

The Wake Forest University Museum of Anthropology is one of five natural history/anthropology museums in the country to receive a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

Wake Forest’s museum was awarded $28,628 in general operating support.

“IMLS encourages the best in museum practice through programs like General Operating Support,” according to Diane Frankel, director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services. “The grant provides national recognition for museums that have the highest ratings of their peers.”

To qualify, museums must demonstrate outstanding performance in all areas of museum functions. Each applicant must perform a complete self-evaluation, involving every aspect of its institution’s operations — from collections’ care and maintenance to educational programs and exhibits. Last year, more than 23,000 patrons visited the museum for its exhibits and educational programs.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services was created by the Museum and Library Services Act of 1996. IMLS is a federal grant-making agency serving the public by strengthening museums and libraries.
