Wake Forest to hold 9/11 remembrance events

Wake Forest University will hold two events on Wednesday, Sept. 11 to remember the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Climb to Remember

At 6 a.m., members of the Army ROTC battalion and military science departments at Wake Forest, Winston-Salem State University and Salem College will climb 2,997 stairs at BB&T Field to pay tribute to each victim.

“We feel it is important to remember those who died on 9/11 and all those who worked so hard that day to save thousands more,” said LTC Melissa Ringhisen, department chair and professor of military science at Wake Forest. “Most of our Cadets were not old enough to remember the actual day, so this event allows them to reflect on what it means to serve others and feel a connection to what happened on 9/11.”

The Climb to Remember event is free and open to the public. All are welcome to participate.

9/11 Moment of Remembrance

At 12:15 p.m., Wake Forest will hold a multi-faith moment of remembrance to honor lives lost and pray for survivors who were greatly affected by the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The 9/11 Moment of Remembrance will be held on the Wake Forest campus at the flagpole between Reynolda Hall and Benson Center.

The event is sponsored by the Office of the Chaplain and is open to the public. Members of the Wake Forest University Army ROTC will participate.
