Documentary filmmaker Brett Ingram, a lecturer in media production at Wake Forest University, will have a screening of his newest documentary-in-progress at 10 p.m. Aug. 1 at PS 211 in Winston-Salem.
“Monster Road” is a 90-minute documentary about Seattle underground animator Bruce Bickford, best known for his collaborations with Frank Zappa in 1970s films like “Baby Snakes” and “The Dub Room Special.” It is produced by Ingram and partner Jim Haverkamp of Bright Eye Pictures in Durham.
Admission to the “Monster Road” screening is by donation, to assist in the completion of the independent project. PS 211 is located at 211 E. 3rd St. in downtown Winston-Salem.
Ingram was recently named one of the “25 New Faces of Indie Film 2003” by Filmmaker Magazine for his work in independent films. His documentaries and films have been screened at more than 100 festivals and museums nationally and internationally, collectively receiving a total of 29 awards. Five of Ingram’s films have aired on regional PBS stations.
Ingram will direct a Wake Forest documentary this year based on the university’s 2003-2004 theme year, “Fostering Dialogue.” He will also teach “Dialogue and Documentary,” a seminar where students will produce documentaries on the theme.
