Eight Wake Forest students and alumni awarded Fulbright Scholarships

Eight Wake Forest students and alumni have been awarded Fulbright Scholarships to teach English and conduct research during the 2020-2021 academic year.  

The Fulbright US Student Program is the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange program, offering research study and teaching opportunities in over 160 countries. The Fulbright award is designed to facilitate cultural exchange and increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and those of other countries. 

Among this year’s winners from Wake Forest, four were awarded Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships and will teach English in countries around the world. Four were awarded Fulbright Study/Research grants.

  • Yongsu (Jacob) Ahn (‘19) – will teach English in Thailand
  • Kalyn Epps (‘19) – will teach English in Spain
  • Ludan Gbaye will conduct neuroscience research in Mexico 
  • Moriah Jackson (MS ‘20) will conduct medical sciences research in Malaysia 
  • Will McKay will teach English in Germany
  • Danielle Medina-Hernandez (‘18) will conduct biology research in Denmark
  • Thomas Poston (‘18) will conduct research in development studies in Cambodia
  • Grace Russell will teach English in Thailand

Additionally, four students have been named alternates:

  • Emma Beveridge, teaching assistantship in Andorra
  • Jennifer Hernandez-Gonzalez, teaching assistantship in Germany
  • Spencer Milanek, teaching assistantship in Germany
  • Libby Mohn, teaching assistantship in Taiwan

The awards are announced on a rolling basis, determined by the host country. This list is current as of May 12.

The Fulbright Scholarship application process is open to Wake Forest seniors, alumni and graduate and professional students. Forty-one nominations were made by Wake Forest this year.
