Bradley Thomas Gilmore of Huntington Beach is one of five high school seniors awarded a 1996 Nancy S. Reynolds Scholarship to attend Wake Forest University.
The four-year scholarship, estimated at $110,000, pays tuition, room and board, and personal expenses. Also included are funds for summer research and overseas study.
Gilmore, a senior at Cerritos High School, is the son of Carla K. Gilmore of Huntington Beach and Thomas Edward Gillmore of Bellingham, Wash.
Gilmore is a four-year participant in Model United Nations and served as Spanish club treasurer and president. Gilmore also worked as a research assistant in the rain forests of Costa Rica gathering data on green sea turtles.
The 1996 Reynolds scholars will be part of the first freshman class to participate in Wake Forest’s Plan for the Class of 2000. The plan is designed to maintain the university’s commitment to small classes and individualized instruction, while expanding the opportunity for students to benefit from new information technology.
Next fall’s freshman class, for instance, will take newly-created first-year seminars and be provided with IBM ThinkPad notebook computers for use in their studies.
