The Wake Forest University Collegium Musicum vocal and instrumental ensembles will present a concert titled, “German Music of the 16th and 17th Centuries,” at 8 p.m. on Nov. 16 in Brendle Recital Hall.
Admission is free.
The program will feature music by several 16th and 17th century German composers. Led by Brian Gorelick, the vocal ensemble will perform German madrigals by Hans Leo Hassler, Orlando di Lasso and Melchior Franck.
The instrumental ensemble, led by Stewart Carter, will perform works by Ludwig Senfl, Heinrich Isaac, Johann Nermann Schein and Samuel Scheidt. The musicians will play reproductions of such early instruments as recorders, violas da gamba, sackbuts (early trombone) and cornetto.
The instrumentalists will join the vocal ensemble to perform part one of Daniel Bollius’ oratorio, “The Nativity of St. John the Baptist.” The concert will feature faculty soloists Teresa Radomski and Richard Heard and student soloists Katherine Cates, Michelle Neidigh, Matthew Barbour and Matthew Johnson.
