Wake Forest’s choirs to present ‘War and Peace in Choral Sound’

The Choral Union will sing excerpts from “Gloria” by Vivaldi, Ives’ “Serenity,” and Robert Fountain’s arrangement of “Deep River.” The Collegium Vocal Ensemble, a choir devoted to the performance of early music, will present Clement Janequin’s 16th century song “La Guerre.” The piece depicts in nonsense French the battle cries and fighting noises of the battle of Marignan of 1515.

The Concert Choir will sing the “Agnus Dei” from Haydn’s “Mass in Time of War” and Mose Hogan’s “The Battle of Jericho.” The choir will also present “Beat, Beat, Drums” by Howard Hanson, based on a text by Walt Whitman.

The Wake Forest Chorale-a new choir comprised of Triad community members and Wake Forest students, faculty and staff-will join the Concert Choir to sing “Chichester Psalms.” Joanne Inkman, staff accompanist, and Thomas Turnbull, guest artist, will provide the accompaniment in a two-piano arrangement by Wake Forest Director of Choral Ensembles Brian Gorelick.

Gorelick will direct the four choirs.
