WFU students exposed to bat with rabies symptoms undergoing treatment

Three Wake Forest University students working in a Reynolda campus research laboratory are undergoing a series of rabies treatments after being exposed to a bat exhibiting rabies symptoms.

The bat was euthanized and testing to find out if the animal carried rabies should be completed by the end of the week.

The bat was one of several used in a study of the interactions between bats and moths.

All three students had received pre-exposure vaccinations, but they are receiving post-exposure rabies treatments as a precaution. Two students are graduate students; one is an undergraduate.
