Wake Forest hosts a night of one-act plays

The Wake Forest University Theatre will continue its Studio Series featuring the directing projects of Wake Forest senior theatre majors with the productions “In the Western Garden,” “All About Al” and “Red Carnations” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10, and 4:30 p.m. Oct. 11 in the Ring Theatre in the Scales Fine Arts Center.

“In the Western Garden” is written by Stuart Spencer and directed by senior Matthew Gutschick. It follows the life of an ailing artist and his caregiver wife, who must carefully guard the secret of what her husband’s most recent paintings look like from his former art dealer and new protégé.

“All About Al” is a realistic comedy about Gil and Lenny and the love of both of their lives, Allison Kramer. The play, written by Cherie Vogelstein and directed by senior Ben Whiting, looks at age-old relationships in a contemporary coffee shop.

Glenn Hughes’ “Red Carnations” is a 1920s comedy of manners set in the corner of a park in New York City. It deals with the troubles a boy faces as he vies for the affection of a young lady. Senior Adam Humenansky will direct the play.

Studio Series plays are student produced, designed and performed based on nearly a year’s worth of academic preparation under the mentorship of the theatre faculty.

Tickets are $2 at the door. Call the Theatre Box Office at 336-758-5295 for more information.
