Eight May graduates have earned the opportunity to start their professional careers in Europe. Five are on their way to Spain and three to France after receiving assistantship positions to teach English during the upcoming academic year.

Four recent Wake Forest graduates have been awarded Fulbright scholarships — the most prestigious international exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government — to teach English or conduct research abroad during the next year.

Abroad in South America

Seven students are spending the 2011 spring semester studying abroad in Santiago, Chile, in the newly established Wake Forest Southern Cone Program. The Wake Forest faculty-led program includes home stays with host families, classes with Chilean students and travel in the region.

Barefoot on the Quad

On April 4, more than 250 students walked barefoot on Hearn Plaza and lined the Quad with paper feet to show support for children who face challenges while trying to gain access to education — such as walking to school without shoes.

The curse of corruption in Africa

Author of “Dangerous Sanctuaries: Refugee Crises, Civil War, and the Dilemmas of Humanitarian Aid,” Lischer studies refugees, humanitarian aid, civil war and African politics.
