Film, lecture will focus on AIDS, other life-threatening diseases

The film, “Still/Here,” will be shown at Wake Forest University at 7 p.m. on Feb. 17 in the Scales Fine Arts Center, Room 102.

The event is free and open to the public. An informal reception will follow the film.

The film, an adaptation of a dance-theater piece, explores issues faced by people who are living with life-threatening diseases, including AIDS. The film was originally created for PBS.

Ken Frazell, a composer from the North Carolina School of the Arts, who created the film’s musical score, will participate in a discussion about the film.

The event will also inaugurate a new campus group, the Friends of the Gay-Straight Student Alliance. Friends of the GSSA is a faculty, staff, alumni and friends group at Wake Forest to support the Gay-Straight Student Alliance and other groups which seek to promote open discussion on themes of sexual orientation and equality.

The event is co-sponsored by Friends of the GSSA, the women’s studies program, the counseling center, the dance program and Student Health Service.
