Philanthropist Fred M. Kirby II, past president of the F.M. Kirby Foundation and a longtime supporter of Wake Forest, has died. Kirby, who lived in New Vernon, N.J., died Feb. 8 at the age of 91.

Associate Professor of Religion Mary Foskett has been named the first director of Wake Forest’s new Humanities Institute. The Institute, which was formally established last October, will support interdisciplinary scholarship, research initiatives and education in the humanities.

HR director to leave for new role

Trustee killed in plane crash

Wake Forest trustee James “Jim” Judson Jr. (’80) and his wife, Beth, were killed Tuesday when their private plane crashed in Mississippi. Judson, a successful Atlanta businessman, served on the board of trustees from 2004 – 2008 and began a second term on the board this summer.
