Congress awards gold to Palmer

Wake Forest golf icon Arnold Palmer received the Congressional Gold Medal at a special ceremony at the U.S. Capitol on Sept. 12. The medal is the highest civilian award in the U.S., along with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which Palmer received in 2004.

WFU’s Paul wins second gold

Chris Paul scored 11 points to help the U.S. men’s basketball team beat Spain to win gold Sunday at the 2012 London Olympics. The gold medal is the second for Paul, who also played on the U.S. team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

WFU’s Simpson wins U.S. Open

Webb Simpson (’08) has won the U.S. Open for his first major golf title. The celebration had a Demon Deacon feel, as Simpson shared it with his wife, Dowd (’07), and thanked WFU great Arnold Palmer for providing the scholarship that allowed him to play golf at Wake Forest.
