Wake Forest celebrates 189th birthday, honors two University leaders
    The Wake Forest University community gathered in Wait Chapel on Feb. 16 to observe Founders Day – a time when the University pauses to celebrate its history and founding, which goes back to 1834.

    Lawyer, bestselling author and social justice advocate Bryan Stevenson will join the Face to Face Speaker Forum for an evening of conversation with WFU Vice President of Campus Life Shea Kidd Brown on Feb. 23.
    For Elham Ghadiri, developing new laser techniques to discover and improve solar energy conversion devices that could help mitigate climate change is her passion. The chemistry professor at Wake Forest University recently won an NSF CAREER Award to continue this research.  Her students will also assist her with this work.

    Wake Forest University will celebrate its annual Founders Day on Feb. 16 at 4 p.m. in Wait Chapel. Two long-time members of the Winston-Salem community will be recognized during the event.

    The Lilly Endowment Inc. has awarded Wake Forest a $30.7 million grant to support the University’s Program for Leadership and Character and create a national higher education network devoted to educating character.
    For more than two decades, Wake Forest University and Winston-Salem State University have collaborated to host events honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. One of those is the annual ‘Building the Dream’ awards. Six individuals were recognized this week during a joint MLK celebration luncheon.
